A surprise on track: the Argentine driver was apparently struck by a fruit on the Halo during the free practice session at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
An incredible moment occurred during FP3 at the Azerbaijan GP: Franco Colapinto, the Argentine driver, was hit by an apple while tackling Turn 4 of the Baku City Circuit. The impact struck the car’s Halo—the cockpit head protection system—preventing more serious consequences.
Immediately after the incident, Colapinto’s engineer radioed: “It’s something like an apple!” making the unusual nature of the object clear. It is currently unclear whether the fruit came from the stands or another source, leaving fans and team members astonished.
