Stellantis has once again halted production—this time affecting key models such as the Fiat Panda and the Alfa Romeo Tonale
Stellantis stops again. Sadly, this headline has become all too familiar. The group announced the decision in order to “avoid excessive stockpiling” (in other words, due to weak sales). With the European car market far from vibrant, Stellantis continues to struggle to see a light at the end of the tunnel, following months of major upheavals at the top.
The most significant stoppages are taking place in France, at the Poissy plant, and in Italy, at Pomigliano d’Arco. In the Naples-area facility in particular, production of the Grande Panda will be suspended for seven days starting September 29, while the Alfa Romeo Tonale will face a two-week shutdown.
The production freeze will also affect other plants in Germany (Eisenach), Spain (Madrid—where a full two-week stoppage is planned—and Zaragoza), and Poland (Tychy).
But there are still good news.
Despite ongoing management challenges, Stellantis achieved a significant milestone in hybrid sales.
In August, the group recorded a year-on-year increase in hybrid vehicle registrations, with hybrid sales climbing to a 17% share of the total EU30 market. This result secures Stellantis the second spot among European automakers.
Over 1,650,000 new hybrid models were sold, with the Citroën C3 Aircross and the Peugeot 208 leading the charge. In particular, Peugeot drove a notable boost for the group, posting a 7% sales increase in August 2025 compared to the same month in 2024.
