Extreme heat and torrential rain threaten the Marina Bay weekend: FIA forced to take extraordinary measures to ensure safety and spectacle (if the race goes ahead)
The Singapore Grand Prix has never been an easy event, but the 2025 edition risks being one of the most challenging ever. Marina Bay is already experiencing extreme weather conditions: on one side, scorching temperatures above 30°C with suffocating humidity, and on the other, sudden downpours creating difficulties for teams and organizers.
The conditions recorded in recent hours have pushed the FIA to continuously monitor the weather evolution. The challenge is not just managing the rain, which could clearly alter and complicate the sessions, but also ensuring the safety of drivers in extreme heat. The combination of humidity and high temperatures, as seen in past years, severely tests the physical endurance of athletes, who must face one of the longest and most grueling races on the calendar on this circuit.
Extraordinary measures in the paddock: FIA precautions
The first countermeasures have already been implemented: teams have been asked to reinforce their structures against heavy rain and set up additional cooling systems for drivers (and staff). The potential early use of intermediate and full wet tires is no longer a marginal possibility but a concrete scenario, possibly starting tomorrow.
The FIA has issued two official statements:
- First one is “In accordance with Article 26.19 of the Sporting Regulations, having received a forecast from the official Meteorological Service indicating that the Heat Index will exceed 31.0 °C at some point during the race of this event, a Heat hazard is declared .”
- Otherwise, the second one is “Due severe meteo conditions (heavy rain, ed.), teams are authorized to close the doors of their garage”.
Weather Alert in Singapore: FIA documents
The risk of interruptions or sessions held under unusual conditions is real, given that even last year there was a long suspension due to Stroll’s incident in the final corner. However, at the moment, there are no cancellations or major changes to the schedule: the goal remains to deliver a safe spectacle without compromise.
Much will depend on the next 48 hours, when forecasts should clarify whether rain will remain a minor variable or become the true protagonist of the weekend. As always, we at GPKingdom will keep you updated minute by minute.
