Updated components in Parc Fermé for McLaren and Mercedes: preventive measures for safety and performance ahead of the Austin GP
Just 60 minutes before the start of the 2025 United States Grand Prix in Austin, the FIA published Document 50, updating the technical status of the teams in Parc Fermé. Both McLaren and Mercedes replaced several components on their cars — as did Sauber on Nico Hülkenberg’s car.
Specifically, on the McLaren Mercedes (#04, Lando Norris), the steering wheel, gearbox oil filter housing with its O-ring and circlip were replaced. During qualifying, Norris had already reported steering issues over the team radio between his first and second Q2 attempts, making this replacement a necessary and preventive measure to ensure safety and performance for the race.
The Mercedes (#63, George Russell), meanwhile, had its rear exhaust pipe, mounting sleeve, and bracket replaced. All interventions were carried out under FIA supervision in Parc Fermé, fully compliant with the regulations — meaning no grid penalties were applied.
