F1 Academy looks to the future amid regulatory changes planned for the 2027 edition and the entry of a new team to support female drivers: everything you need to know
As F1 Academy prepares to close its third season with the final round of 2025, scheduled for next weekend in Las Vegas, news has just arrived about the renewed involvement of Formula 1 teams in supporting the female talents of the series, led by former driver Susie Wolff, through a multi-year partnership—and there are plenty of updates.

Looking ahead to 2027, Cadillac F1 Team—the eleventh Formula 1 team to join the grid starting next season—has already announced that it will support the young drivers who will make up the grid for what will be the fifth edition of the women’s championship; a commitment that not only confirms the exponential growth of F1 Academy but also demonstrates the strength of the project launched in 2023, which is increasingly receiving media attention, as evidenced by the production of the series F1: The Academy, available on the streaming platform Netflix.
Another change coming in the next seasons concerns the regulations, which currently state that after two seasons, drivers must leave their seats to make room for new talent. However, starting in 2027, this rule will be updated, allowing a waiver for a third season for drivers who have demonstrated significant growth potential.
Susie Wolff: “F1 teams’ commitment sends a powerful message about the future of F1 Academy”
Susie Wolff, Managing Director of F1 ACADEMY said: “The long-term commitment of all ten current Formula 1 teams, together with Cadillac’s entry into our grid from 2027, sends a powerful message about the future of F1 ACADEMY. We are not just providing a platform for the current generation of female drivers; together, we are building a pathway to support future generations of talent.” “
“We continue to be impressed by the depth of female talent emerging from the karting world and are encouraged by the growth and strength of the pool of young prospects. Greater focus on personalized talent development, including the possibility for high-potential drivers to compete for up to three seasons, will give the best drivers the opportunity and support they need to fully realize their potential, while ensuring that the F1 ACADEMY grid consistently showcases the very best female talent ,” she continued.
