Bringing Formula 1 to Bangkok is a prospect gaining significant traction in recent hours—a rumor actively promoted for the first time by a current driver on the grid.

Alexander Albon on the Thailand F1 GP: “As a street circuit, it would certainly be one of the best”

The central figure in this narrative is Alexander Albon. The Williams driver has a clear vested interest in the event taking place in Thailand, where he is celebrated as a local hero. Although born in London and holding a British passport, Albon has always chosen to compete under the Thai flag, prioritizing his Southeast Asian heritage over his British roots.

Albon’s Verdict: “Bangkok would be one of the best street tracks”

Thailand’s potential entry into the Formula 1 schedule is currently targeted for 2028. This is the projected year for F1 to arrive in Bangkok, adding yet another street circuit to the calendar. While there is no official confirmation as of yet, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has frequently stated that intense negotiations are underway with organizers and the Thai government to bring the project to fruition.

The Williams driver’s comments on the Bangkok F1 GP: “If you look at the recent street circuits introduced to Formula 1, I think this is the absolute best”

As a national icon, Albon is playing—and will continue to play—a pivotal role in this initiative. Today, as reported by SpeedCafe (and cited by FormulaPassion), Albon offered his insights on the prospect of F1 in Bangkok: “I wouldn’t say I had a say in the design, but they involved me in what they were doing, and I saw the initial phases, where they are at, and what they have published on social media“.

He then delivered a significant endorsement regarding the track itself:
I think that, as a street circuit, it is one of the best; that is for sure. As drivers, I think it’s fair to say we like street circuits, but I believe the layout presented in Thailand is an excellent middle ground, featuring flowing corners. If you look at the layout, there are many opportunities to take different racing lines, and that is the secret to a good race”.

“So, I am absolutely in favor. If you look at the recent street circuits released by Formula 1, I think this is the best of all. It is a track and a location that I think the drivers will appreciate greatly, and a country that I hope we can all experience fully when it happens “.
