Renewal of the Barcelona GP in F1: the official statement

The news has broken only moments ago: the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, a long-standing fixture on the F1 calendar and the venue that hosted the first shakedown of the 2026 cars, has secured a contract extension through 2032.

The official announcement and Domenicali’s comments

Below is the official statement released by the circuit:
“Formula 1 has announced a multi-year extension with the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya to host a Grand Prix in 2028, 2030 and 2032, in addition to the event already scheduled for 2026″.

The long-debated concept of Grand Prix rotation, aimed at alternating European venues to make room for a growing global calendar, has now also affected Catalonia.
As a result, Barcelona—despite its renewal until 2032—will alternate annually with Spa-Francorchamps, the home of the Belgian Grand Prix.

From this year, the race will also be officially renamed the “Barcelona–Catalunya Grand Prix.”
The extension follows significant investments made in recent years, including: The construction of the Circuit Rooftop, a new hospitality area overlooking Turns 9, 10 and 11 and the entrance to the main straight
The installation of solar panels across the entire circuit, reinforcing its sustainability strategy

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali welcomed the news enthusiastically:
“Barcelona is an incredible city and the F1 fans there always welcome us with great passion, so I am delighted that we will continue racing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for many years to come.”

“The team has invested heavily in the circuit and has organised fantastic fan festivals in recent years, and we look forward to seeing how they continue to develop the experience for both race attendees and the city as a whole. I can’t wait to see our amazing fans in Barcelona this June!”
