While the announcement has not yet been made, it could arrive during the weekend of the Chinese Grand Prix. The reason behind the decision would be the worsening geopolitical situation in the Middle East, where tensions and conflict in the region continue to escalate without signs of stabilization.

The two April races at risk

In the original 2026 championship calendar, the two Middle Eastern rounds were scheduled for April: first the Bahrain Grand Prix and then the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, planned for April 12 and April 19 respectively.

Both events have been important stops on the championship calendar for years, particularly from an economic and commercial perspective. However, at this moment the priority remains the safety of teams, drivers and all personnel travelling with the circus throughout the season.

Discussions between Formula One Management, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, and the local organizers are reportedly already at an advanced stage, if not already concluded. According to the latest reports, the decision to cancel the two Grands Prix is now considered almost certain, with an official announcement expected during the race weekend in Shanghai.
