After rumors about Jonathan Wheatley, Aston Martin’s boss has issued a denial: no changes for Adrian Newey
An official response has arrived from Aston Martin following the speculation over the past hours about a possible step back from Adrian Newey as Team Principal. The Silverstone-based team addressed the situation directly through a statement from chairman Lawrence Stroll, putting an end — at least for now — to the rumors.
The message is clear: no internal revolution (which would have been yet another), and no imminent role changes – despite the official confirmation that Jonathan Wheatley has left Audi (with Mattia Binotto set to become Team Principal there).
Newey will remain a central figure in the Aston Martin project, but within a different organizational structure compared to other teams. “We do not adopt the traditional Team Principal role, and that is a deliberate choice,” explained Stroll, emphasizing that the British engineering genius is primarily focused on the technical leadership of a car that has not had an easy start.
A firm stance from the team owner, completely overturning the scenario suggested by recent rumors: according to Aston Martin, Newey is and will remain the key figure of the project (also considering the massive financial investment), not only as a technical mind but also as a direct partner of the ownership.
The focus therefore remains on car development and team growth, in what has been a difficult start to the season – requiring immediate solutions on the Honda side rather than changes at the top in Silverstone.
In short: no step back, but a “non-conventional” management approach. And above all, a message to the paddock – Aston Martin has no intention of dismantling its project right now, despite Wheatley now officially out of the Audi project.
