Problems continue at the new Brazilian circuit: at the moment it will not be possible to hold qualifying sessions for the smaller categories, while the Sprint Race should still go ahead.
Brazil’s debut in the MotoGP championship has proven more complicated than expected. After yesterday’s long delays, the rainy season has struck again: damage to the track surface has forced race direction to halt all activities until the issue is resolved.
Currently, the area has been cordoned off and work is underway to repair, as quickly as possible, a hole on the main straight. Although the asphalt problem is not on the racing line, all sessions are suspended until everything is fixed: Moto3 and Moto2 qualifying sessions will therefore be postponed, while MotoGP riders should still be able to take to the track for the Sprint Race.
The official statement
“Due to the heavy rains that have recently affected the region, an issue has occurred with the track surface on the main straight of the Autódromo Internacional de Goiânia – Ayrton Senna. The FIM and MotoGP, together with the local promoter, are working to resolve the problem as soon as possible. Due to the time required to complete the repairs, when on-track activity resumes the next session will be the MotoGP Tissot Sprint. Moto2 and Moto3 qualifying sessions have been postponed until further notice .”
