It’s been a tough time for Fernando Alonso, who, however, became a father on Friday.
A bittersweet weekend in Japan for Fernando Alonso, with the Spaniard becoming a father for the first time on Friday. It was an immense emotion for the two-time world champion, as the track offered him his usual easy ride on the Suzuka circuit. Nando will need a lot of patience, as Aston Martin is currently navigating the murky waters of the lower reaches of the standings, and a climb back up the ladder seems very difficult.
Alonso, during an interview with Sky Sport F1, showed his usual verve when commenting on the British team’s situation. These are his never-trivial words: “I think I’m the best in the art of patience; there are drivers who, after having a car that isn’t even in the top five, explode. I’ve been fighting for the world championship for 23 years with cars that aren’t even in the top four,” Alonso claimed, “so I know enough about patience, and no, fatherhood won’t change anything for me.”
The Asturian then added: “Now we know where we are, and we’re far behind. Miracles don’t exist in Formula 1; you have to wait a few months. The most impressive thing we saw was McLaren in 2023, which started very poorly and then was fine at the end of the year. In our dreams, we try to replicate something similar, starting very poorly and perhaps having a slightly more competitive car at the end of the year.”
