KTM reaches the podium once again thanks to a phenomenal performance by Pedro Acosta: while there is reason to smile on one hand, on the other a record emerges that gives pause for thought.
It has now been three years since Acosta arrived in MotoGP with KTM, and since then discussions about the rider’s potential versus the bike’s handling difficulties have intensified, even fueling rumors of a possible (if not almost certain) move for number #37 to the factory team of Ducati next season.
Pedro Acosta’s negative record
Despite this, thanks to two podium finishes both in Thailand and in Austin, Pedro Acosta is currently third in the riders’ championship, behind only the two Aprilia Racing bikes. However, there is also a less positive record in this story: since joining MotoGP, Pedro Acosta has reached the podium several times in Sunday races, but has never managed to win.
His third-place finish at the Austin GP represents the twelfth podium without a victory for the rider from Murcia, equaling the negative record of Colin Edwards.
