Toto Wolff spoke after the Suzuka race won by Andrea Kimi Antonelli, the Italian’s second consecutive victory.
When you have a clear advantage over the competition, even the worst can magically become pleasant. This is the situation for Mercedes, which began the new championship with three wins in as many races, with two wins for Andrea Kimi Antonelli and the inaugural win for George Russell. Toto Wolff, leading both championships with his team, had some glowing comments about the new regulation cycle.
These are his words in detail: “Formula 1 is changing and becoming pure racing. Seeing one driver recharge and the other use it is very exciting. We’re talking about a science of racing that is developing and is in the hands of the drivers. But perhaps Max and the others preferred last year’s rules, when we saw almost no overtaking here at Suzuka.”
The Austrian then added: “No one can complain about the lack of beauty in the races. Do you agree or disagree? Only conservatives, traditionalists, and those who live in the past might not like it. For me, the race isn’t a problem; we need to work on qualifying, and we’ll do that in London on April 9.”
