Big news for Scuderia Ferrari: ADUO is about to come into effect — here’s when it will be introduced.
After the initial dominance of Mercedes, Ferrari is preparing a comeback. The Maranello team has reportedly received approval from the FIA to introduce a new engine thanks to ADUO, the system that allows manufacturers in difficulty to develop upgrades during the season.

According to estimates, Ferrari is currently around 25 horsepower behind rivals, therefore falling within the parameters of the ADUO program (Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities). This situation has allowed the Italian team to obtain authorization to work on a new power unit specification.
ADUO was introduced starting from 2026 precisely to avoid this type of situation: a dominant car closing the championship battle early in the season.
Without this mechanism, that scenario seemed likely. From this year, however, Ferrari will be able to recover and fight for a world title that has been missing in Maranello since 2008.
When the New Engine Will Debut: There’s a Date
According to journalist Julianne Cerasoli, Ferrari has already received approval to introduce the new engine starting from the Canadian Grand Prix, following the official activation of the ADUO program after the Miami Grand Prix, scheduled after the break.
It remains to be seen whether the test at Autodromo Nazionale Monza scheduled for April can provide further insights for the Maranello team. The feeling is that testing the power unit on such an extreme circuit could generate valuable data to work on.
Ferrari Behind Mercedes: Here’s By How Much
Data indicates that the Ferrari engine is currently at least 2% less powerful than the Mercedes unit, which is currently the benchmark in terms of power.
This limitation clearly emerged in the opening rounds of the season, where Ferrari struggled especially in sections requiring full electrical deployment and energy recovery. However, after Miami, the situation could start to change.
