Max Verstappen’s Red Bull exit clause will be triggered if the Dutchman fails to finish in the top two positions in the drivers’ standings.
Max Verstappen’s recent comments have sparked the classic debate regarding the four-time world champion’s departure from Red Bull, or from Formula 1, at the end of the season. The Dutch driver has repeatedly emphasized the inadequacy of the new regulations, resulting in a loss of desire to race (at least in F1), seeking satisfaction and a pure racing spirit in various endurance races, such as the Nürburgring.
This situation currently sees Max Verstappen away from Red Bull (due to the car’s difficulties) and from the Formula One itself, which is why the initial speculation has resurfaced within the paddock. According to Dutch media reports, Max’s exit clause from Red Bull could be triggered if the four-time world champion doesn’t secure the top two spots in the drivers’ standings before the summer break.
This is a highly likely scenario, given what the Austrian team has expressed so far. So, what could the near future hold for Max, and what decisions might the Dutchman make? Verstappen could opt for a year off from Formula 1 to focus on endurance racing (the 24 Hours of Le Mans being the top choice), while the Mercedes option could be revived, even though Andrea Kimi Antonelli and George Russell have multi-year contracts.
