The British driver crashed yesterday at Suzuka: the details
A scary moment at the Suzuka circuit during the second day of Pirelli’s reserved wet tyre development tests: Arvid Lindblad, Racing Bulls rookie who has started his Formula 1 adventure so promisingly, lost control of his car due to aquaplaning, sliding off the track and hitting the barrier protections.
The unstable weather conditions made the Japanese circuit (already challenging in its own right) particularly treacherous, with standing water in several sections of the track: it was in one of these stretches that Lindblad’s car suddenly lost grip, leaving the driver with no chance to react. The impact caused visible damage to the front of the car, with the wing completely destroyed.
Fortunately, the physical outcome was entirely positive: Lindblad climbed out of the cockpit on his own two feet, suffering no consequences.
The British driver had taken over on track from Liam Lawson, who had driven on the first day immediately after the Japanese Grand Prix. Also present at Suzuka was Red Bull Racing, with Isack Hadjar at the wheel, supporting Formula 1’s sole tyre supplier in its wet tyre development programme.
Despite the scare, Lindblad returned to action during the afternoon, completing the planned work programme and contributing to data collection in conditions that – precisely because of their difficulty – prove invaluable for the future.
