The Son of Mick Doohan Turned Down the Prancing Horse: A Very Specific Decision Behind the “No”
In a driver’s career, some opportunities may come only once. One of these is Scuderia Ferrari. The fascination of a team born from the vision of a Modenese pioneer and now one of the most famous brands in the world is almost irresistible.
Following a Formula 1 experience that was not particularly spectacular – also marked by the unfortunate threats received in Miami – Jack Doohan could have relaunched his career with Ferrari, starting as early as this season.
Ferrari’s Offer to Doohan: What Was on the Table?
Ferrari reportedly contacted Doohan for a full-time seat in the WEC, within one of its Hypercar line-ups. It is not yet clear which driver the Australian would have replaced, but Doohan ultimately decided to turn down the offer from Maranello.
The reason? The former Alpine driver chose instead to focus on the European Le Mans Series, which begins this Sunday in Barcelona. His goal is to remain competitive and potentially secure a full-time Formula 1 seat in 2027, possibly with Haas, where he currently serves as reserve driver.
It is certainly a courageous decision. Turning down Ferrari is not something many drivers would do, and only time will tell whether this gamble will pay off for the son of motorcycle legend Mick Doohan, who so far has arguably achieved less than his potential suggests. Doohan is betting on Formula 1 – and that long-term vision may ultimately define his career.
