The two events in the Americas will replace the rounds in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

Formula 2 will accompany Formula 1 at the events in Miami and Montreal: it has now been officially confirmed that the two circuits in the Americas will host the leading feeder series alongside Formula 1, replacing the rounds in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, which had previously been cancelled following the war in the Middle East, thus maintaining a total of 14 events in the 2026 calendar.

Formula 2 will therefore return to the track earlier than expected after Melbourne, with the Miami round set to be the second event of the season, scheduled from May 1 to 3. Three weeks later (May 22–24), it will be the turn of Montreal, before the return to Europe, with the fourth round taking place at the Circuit de Monaco from June 4 to 7.

The new Formula 2 Championship calendar will particularly affect Colton Herta’s season schedule, as the Montreal round will coincide with the Indianapolis 500 weekend. The American driver had an agreement with Andretti Autosport to compete in the historic U.S. event, but he decided to prioritize his climb toward Formula 1, thus confirming his presence in Canada for the third round of the Formula 2 season.

Colton Herta will be regularly behind the wheel of Hitech Grand Prix for the third round of the 2026 Formula 2 season, foregoing the Indianapolis 500 – PH: FIA Formula 2, Colton Herta.

Miami and Montreal join the 2026 calendar: the statements

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, explained the reasons behind replacing the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia rounds with Miami and Montreal, in contrast to the Formula 1 calendar, where the Middle East races will likely not be replaced: While it has not been possible to go ahead with the two races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia this month, and we look forward to being back with our passionate fans there as soon as possible, it is great news for our fans, the drivers and the teams that Formula 2 will be racing in Miami and Montreal.

Bruno and the whole F2 family have done a great job, working closely with us, the FIA, and the Miami and Montreal promoters, to ensure we limit the gap in racing for the championship this season and I want to thank them for making this possible. It is going to be fantastic to restart the racing in a few weeks’ time and to have F2 alongside Formula 1 as we return to the US for the first time this season.

Formula 2 will make its debut in the Americas for the first time in its history: it will also be a great opportunity to attract new fans to the category – PH: FIA Formula 2 Championship.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of FIA, also highlighted the significant growth opportunity for Formula 2, which will make its debut in the Americas for the first time in its history: Following the necessary changes to the calendar at the start of the season, the addition of these new rounds ensures the FIA Formula 2 Championship remains strong and balanced, and able to deliver for our teams, drivers and fans. Bringing the championship to North America via Miami and Montreal for the first time marks an important step in its continued global growth, strengthening the pathway alongside Formula One and connecting with new audiences. I thank all those who worked tirelessly to make these rounds possible.

Our thoughts remain with all those affected by the ongoing events in the Middle East and we continue to hope for a swift return to stability. We look forward to racing in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia very soon.” concluded the FIA President.
