Gianpiero Lambiase will leave Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen: now there are no more doubts.

Official confirmation has arrived: Gianpiero Lambiase will leave Red Bull at the end of his contract in 2028. The news, which emerged this morning like a bombshell, concerns one of the key figures behind the Anglo-Austrian team’s dominant era, as well as Verstappen’s long-time race engineer.

Known in the paddock as “GP”, Lambiase has worked alongside the Dutch driver since 2016, when Verstappen was promoted to Red Bull from Scuderia Toro Rosso. From that moment, one of the strongest and most successful partnerships in modern Formula 1 was born, culminating in four consecutive world titles for the Dutch driver.

A Key Figure in Red Bull and Verstappen’s Success: His Career

Over the years, Lambiase became a fundamental presence on the Red Bull pit wall, also thanks to a direct — and often fiery — relationship with Verstappen over team radio.

His Formula 1 career began in 2005 as a data engineer with Jordan Grand Prix. He later became a race engineer during the Force India era, before joining Red Bull in 2015, initially working with Daniil Kvyat.

With Verstappen’s arrival in 2016, a partnership destined to enter Formula 1 history began, further strengthened in recent years by Lambiase’s new role as Head of Racing.

Lambiase’s departure in 2028 will therefore mark the end of an era for Red Bull. Rumors suggest a possible move to McLaren, but further updates are expected to clarify the future of “GP.”
