George Russell praised his teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who leads the drivers’ championship with a nine-point advantage over the Briton.
George Russell began the season with a win in Australia, but in the final two races, Andrea Kimi Antonelli took the lead, claiming back-to-back wins in China and Japan. The 2006-born driver, who made his F1 debut last season, started the season in incredible style, and in Suzuka, by winning his second career race, he also took the lead in the drivers’ championship with a nine-point advantage over Russell.
The British Mercedes driver, in a recent interview, praised his young teammate’s performance with these words. He said: “It’s fantastic to have Kimi as a teammate. He’s an incredibly fast driver, and he’s proven it ever since we became teammates last year. It’s been a perfect start to the year for him, and I can’t wait to try and battle with Kimi again in the next races. I think all of us at that age felt so excited about what lay ahead. I remember being 19 and chasing the dream of becoming a Formula 1 world champion. And I’m still chasing that dream today.”
