The pride of the Brianza circuit: “Speed is in our DNA, but from today safety is also a priority”

Italy and its circuits officially rank 1st in the world in the FIA Road Safety Index: the only two tracks to boast the maximum rating (3 stars) in this standard are Vallelunga and Monza, with the latter promoted today.

The official statement from the circuit

Below is the official statement from ACI:

“Autodromo Nazionale Monza is not only synonymous with speed. From today, it is also an international benchmark for road safety. The Brianza circuit has obtained the maximum three-star rating in the FIA Road Safety Index, the global standard promoted by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile to assess organizations’ commitment in managing mobility-related risks. Monza becomes one of the first circuits in the world to reach this milestone, together with the Piero Taruffi circuit of Vallelunga.

The recognition does not only concern any interventions on the track, but above all the way safety is managed every day. The FIA Road Safety Index rewards an organizational system based on rules, controls and continuous monitoring of risks related to mobility.

At Monza, this means having introduced specific safety procedures, training and awareness activities for those working at the circuit, and tools to analyze and reduce risks. Less visible work, but decisive, involving employees, collaborators and partners, aimed at making all movements linked to the circuit’s activities safer.

For the FIA President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the result has a value that goes beyond the single circuit: it shows how motorsport can “lead by example and promote meaningful change” on a global issue such as road safety.

On the same line is Willem Groenewald, who highlights the importance of data-driven processes to reduce risks and save lives.

The President of Automobile Club d’Italia, Geronimo La Russa, instead emphasizes the symbolic value of the result: the “Temple of Speed”, historic home of the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix, is now also confirmed as a model of safety, innovation and responsibility.

Monza remains one of the most iconic and fastest circuits in the world, but the FIA recognition tells a broader transformation.

The goal is to integrate safety, sustainability and risk management into daily activities, turning the circuit into a laboratory of best practices that can be replicated beyond the sporting context. A shift in paradigm: speed remains in the DNA, but today it is accompanied by a new priority. Safety.”
