The situation is worsening hour by hour: rain probabilities are rising, and alternative scenarios are being evaluated.
The weather situation in Miami continues to deteriorate, and the FIA has decided to take action: an emergency meeting has been called for this evening to assess all possible scenarios ahead of Sunday’s race, which is increasingly at risk.
According to data from the GPKingdom app, probabilities had already risen from 20% to 38% in previous hours, and they are now continuing to climb sharply. Clearly, after a month-long break, the last thing anyone wants is another cancelled Grand Prix.
As already highlighted in previous reports, the main issue is not the rain itself but lightning. FIA regulations are clear: in the presence of electrical activity near the track, the event can be suspended or cancelled.
Race brought forward? The Brazil 2024 precedent
Among the options on the table is bringing the race start forward to avoid the worsening conditions expected later on Sunday. It wouldn’t be the first time: in Brazil 2024, the race—famously won by Max Verstappen—was moved earlier for the same reason. A precedent that Formula 1 could follow again in Miami, where the tropical climate makes forecasts even more unpredictable.
The meeting was confirmed by Sergio Perez during a press conference, with words that highlight the growing concern: “I know there will be a meeting with the FIA to review Sunday’s scenario, because apparently the situation looks really bad.”
We will continue to follow the evolution of the situation in the coming updates, both on our website and on the GPKingdom app.
