After leaving the FIA, head of aerodynamics Jason Somerville is set to join Alpine.
The 2026 season has started positively for Alpine, which has shown encouraging pace in the opening rounds. The Enstone-based outfit currently sits fifth in the Constructors’ Championship with 23 points, behind only Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull, establishing itself as the best of the rest.
Somerville set to join Alpine
After a series of strengthening moves in recent months — from the end of its partnership with Renault as a power unit supplier to the new agreement with Mercedes for engine supply, as well as the recruitment of several engineers from top teams — Alpine has now secured an important signing for the future.
As reported by RacingNews365, the Enstone-based team is set to announce the arrival of Jason Somerville, following his spell at the FIA, where he has spent the last four years as head of aerodynamics. Within the team structure, Somerville is expected to take on a senior role, underlining the experience he has built over the course of his career.
Before his spell at the FIA, he had held the same role in F1 for almost five years, also contributing to the development of the sport’s technical regulations. Prior to that, he spent six seasons at Williams as head of aerodynamics. Somerville’s arrival would represent another sign of Alpine’s ambitions, as the team continues a deep internal restructuring following several seasons below expectations.
