Following the Barcelona Grand Prix, both Álex Márquez and Johann Zarco will miss the first Italian round of the year: while the LCR Honda Team is still looking for a replacement for the French rider, Gresini has already made its choice.
Michele Pirro at Mugello
Once again, the Faenza-based team will turn to Pirro: the Italian CIV rider and Ducati test rider has already taken part in the 2026 MotoGP season, having raced in the opening round in Buriram, where he replaced Aldeguer. The official confirmation came a few minutes ago via a post on the team’s social media pages, stating: “Michele Pirro will replace Álex Márquez in the MotoGP garage of the BK8 Gresini team.”
The situation of the other Márquez brother is different: despite recent surgeries, he is ready to return to the track this weekend for the Italian Grand Prix.
