Free Practice F2 at Silverstone: Durksen leads, strong performance from Prema… and Watch Out for Rain!

by Stefano Zambroni

Results of Free Practice F2 at Silverstone: Best time for Durksen in the rain, Bearman and Antonelli 5th and 6th.

After the Austrian Grand Prix, it’s time to wrap up the triple-header for Formula 2 as well. The first and only free practice session is now in the books, with the fastest time set by Joshua Durksen at 1:58.054, followed by Verschoor at 72 milliseconds behind and Martì at 629 milliseconds behind. The rain played a significant role: while the track started to dry towards the end, a heavy storm dominated the early part of the session.

The two Prema cars performed well: with Bearman in 5th place (recently announced as a Haas F1 driver for 2025) and Antonelli in 6th, the team from Grisignano di Zocco can finally hope for a more relaxed and confident weekend compared to previous ones. Maybe the best result of the season is just around the corner.

Problems towards the end for Colapinto: the Argentine driver, set to make his Formula 1 debut at 13:30, spun at the penultimate corner and got stuck in the gravel. No damage to the car, but the session ended with a disappointing 20th time.

Now, the appointment is at 15:05 (instead of 15:00) for the Formula 2 qualifying session: everything is set for a spectacular show in the junior category, with surprises seemingly just around the corner.
