What convinced him, besides a hefty offer of 100 million over four years, was the belief and challenge of having exclusivity on Honda engine supply when in 2026 the “Green Car” will be the only one to mount the Japanese engine.
Who is Adrian Newey: The Career
Adrian Newey is a British engineer, renowned for being arguably the greatest designer in Formula 1 history. Born on December 26, 1958, in Stratford-upon-Avon, Newey studied aeronautical engineering at the University of Southampton, graduating in 1980. His Formula 1 career began with the Fittipaldi team, but it was with March and later with Leyton House that he started gaining attention thanks to his innovative aerodynamic ideas. His fame, however, exploded in the ’90s when he designed winning cars for Williams and McLaren, contributing to the historic successes of the English teams.
In 2006, Newey joined Red Bull Racing as Chief Technical Officer, playing a crucial role in transforming it into the powerhouse of Formula 1 it is today. Newey-designed cars first dominated the championship from 2010 to 2013, bringing Sebastian Vettel four consecutive world titles, and then triumphed from 2021 to 2023 with Max Verstappen.
