All Formula 1 cars have been deemed compliant with the regulations: the front wings of all twenty cars are legal, with no sanctions expected
No infractions were found, at least not in the “nose” of the twenty cars. Following concerns raised by Red Bull and Ferrari regarding the excessive flexibility of McLaren and Mercedes’ front wings, the FIA issued a statement confirming that “all front wings are currently compliant with the 2024 regulations. Additionally, we do not plan to introduce new tests in the near future.”
This decision dispels any speculation or rumors about possible infractions by the teams led by Zak Brown and Andrea Stella. The MCL38 has been declared compliant, as has the Mercedes W15, ensuring that title battles will not be influenced by penalties or reprimands for the leading teams.
FIA Continues Using Cameras to Monitor Front Wings
Since the Belgian GP, the FIA has been using cameras to monitor front wing movement and will continue to do so at least until Singapore to collect data from all teams on circuits with different downforce characteristics.
Engineers have often employed aeroelasticity to reduce aerodynamic drag within FIA regulations, provided they pass the required load tests. Introducing a certain level of flexibility in the front wing has proven advantageous under current regulations, helping to address balance issues caused by the return of ground-effect floors.
