“Something new ,” this is how Adrian Newey’s entry into Aston Martin was announced. The British genius has finally decided his future in the F1 circus.
An exciting day for the Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team and a historic day in the history of Formula 1. Aston Martin CEO Lawrence Stroll played his cards well, and through today’s press conference, he made the final move: checkmate in the game against the teams that were vying to acquire the genius from Milton Keynes, Adrian Newey. The engineer will be responsible for designing the upcoming AMR cars for the Silverstone-based team ahead of 2026, coinciding with the new F1 car regulations.
There were many speculations about Adrian Newey’s future following his departure from Red Bull, with whom he ended a partnership that began in 2006 (and concluded in May of this year) and saw them achieve victories with Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen. First, there was Scuderia Ferrari, with whom an agreement seemed to be nearly finalized, and then even Alpine appeared to be interested in the wizard from Milton Keynes.
Aston Martin came out on top, with the British engineer set to start working with the team for the next five years beginning in March 2025. Now, the aerodynamics wizard will be able to add another world champion, Fernando Alonso, to his resume.

Adrian Newey expressed his enthusiasm for his new adventure, explaining the reasons behind his decision to join the Aramco team. A key factor was Lawrence Stroll’s determination, as well as the partnerships with the Japanese and Saudi companies: “I am thrilled to be joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team. I have been hugely inspired and impressed by the passion and commitment that Lawrence brings to everything he is involved with. Lawrence is determined to create a world-beating team. He is the only majority team owner who is actively engaged in the sport.“.
“His commitment is demonstrated in the development of the new AMR Technology Campus and wind tunnel at Silverstone, which are not only state of the art but have a layout that creates a great environment to work in. Together with great partners like Honda and Aramco, they have all the key pieces of infrastructure needed to make Aston Martin a world championship-winning team and I am very much looking forward to helping reach that goal” concluded Newey.
Lawrence Stroll’s words on the future with Adrian Newey
“This is huge news. Adrian is the best in the world at what he does – he is at the top of his game – and I am incredibly proud that he is joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team. It’s the biggest story since the Aston Martin name returned to the sport and another demonstration of our ambition to build a Formula One team capable of fighting for world championships. As soon as Adrian became available, we knew we had to make it happen. Our initial conversations confirmed that there was a shared desire to collaborate in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.“.
“Adrian is a racer and one of the most competitive people I have ever met. When he saw what we have built at Silverstone – our incredible AMR Technology Campus, the talented group of people we have assembled and the latest wind tunnel in the sport – he quickly understood what we are trying to achieve. We mean business – and so does he. Adrian shares our hunger and ambition, he believes in this project, and he will help us write the next chapter in Aston Martin Aramco’s Formula One story.“— said Lawrence Stroll, Executive Chairman of the Aston Martin team, with pride and determination to seriously contend for the Formula 1 World Championship in the years to come. May the future also bring Fernando Alonso’s third title?
