The two Red Bull drivers spoke to the press ahead of the Austin Grand Prix, a key test case for the British team.
Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez presented the Austin Grand Prix with the customary appointment dedicated to the international press. The COTA will be a key test for the British team, engaged in the fight with McLaren on both fronts.
The most open fight is definitely in the Drivers’ World Championship with Max Verstappen holding a 52-point lead over Lando Norris when there are six races to go in addition to the three Sprint Races. More complicated, at the moment, is the fight for the Constructors with McLaren holding a 71-point lead over Red Bull, a margin that has grown exponentially in the last three Grands Prix.
Max Verstappen: “Frantic weekend, I trust the changes.”
Max Verstappen presented the U.S. appointment in this way: “This week will be another hectic Sprint race, with a lot going on over the weekend. Austin is a really great city, and the atmosphere on the track is unparalleled. For this race, I will return to wearing my U.S. helmet, which is a tribute to the passionate fans of this city and features the skyline of all three U.S. cities in which we race. We have many good memories here, and we are looking forward to running again this week.
We had a few weeks off from racing, which gave us time to focus and work hard on our performance ahead of the U.S. Grand Prix. We have made some changes to the car to hopefully adapt it better to this circuit, and we will see if that makes us more competitive when we get out on the track.”
Sergio Perez: “We made some changes, I hope they work.”
Then it was the turn of Sergio Perez: “We feel like we have been away from racing for a long time. “It’s good to come back and go to one of our favorite races of the season. It’s a special race for me, his support is really good. I have been training hard at home in Mexico and am in regular contact with the team in the UK.
We are trying to get to Austin in a better position with the car, we made some changes in the break with the goal of improving the pace and we will see how competitive we will be in Austin. Being a Sprint race, things are a bit complicated because we only have one practice session to fine-tune the car, but that’s where teamwork comes in, and that’s where we excel.”
