Ferrari, Vasseur: “Great job by the team. Championship? We’re thinking race by race.”

Frédéric Vasseur commented on Ferrari’s victory in Mexico City, with the team back on track in Brazil this Sunday.

It was the second consecutive win for Ferrari in just seven days, following the success in Austin in Mexico. Carlos Sainz secured pole position and victory, delivering a perfect weekend, while Leclerc finished in third place. This points haul is crucial for Ferrari just 29 points behind McLaren.

Ferrari, Vasseur: “Great job by the team. Championship? We’re thinking race by race.”

Frédéric Vasseur, however, is not focused on the championship and is advocating for calm as the team looks ahead to the next race in Brazil next Sunday Here are the words of Ferrari’s Team Principal: “These results depend not only on the car’s potential but also on how the team manages the various phases of the race. In São Paulo next week, we’ll start from zero, but with the awareness that we’ve won two races in a row, we’re in good form, and we need to keep pushing like this. As for the championship, we will continue to focus race by race. It’s not guaranteed that we will be ahead in São Paulo, but we will approach that race with the same mindset.”

At the start of the season, the former Sauber team principal promised five victories: a promise kept, but with four races still to go, dreaming is allowed. “The car wasn’t specifically designed for the unique circuit in Mexico, so like everyone else,” Vasseur admitted, “we had to be very careful, constantly monitoring engine and brake temperatures to keep them within limits. That’s why I can say the whole team did an excellent job. Since the Monza race, our car has performed well on circuits with very different characteristics, and that makes me believe we can be competitive in the final races of the season.”

Regarding Sainz and Leclerc‘s weekend, he said: “We are really happy with this second consecutive victory. Carlos had a perfect weekend: he set the pace from the first lap of Free Practice 1 and showed very smart driving in the race, even when he temporarily lost the lead on the opening lap. The overtake on Max Verstappen was fantastic, and from then on he controlled the race without issues.

Charles also had good pace, but he lost a bit of time with the lapped cars in the final stages, which cost us the second position. Despite that, it was a good weekend for him as well, although I understand he’s not completely satisfied with the final result.”
