Lewis Hamilton spoke at the press conference ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix scheduled at Interlagos.
Lewis Hamilton is always the most anticipated figure in Interlagos. The seven-time world champion has an unbreakable bond with the Brazilian people, a connection that will be further solidified as Lewis will drive Ayrton Senna’s 1990 McLaren.
Hamilton, coming off a fourth-place finish at the Mexican Grand Prix, addressed the press conference. Here are his words, starting with his thoughts on the Brazilian atmosphere and warmth: “I love coming here! I’m so excited every time I make this trip; I always learn something new about the culture, the colors, the atmosphere, the people, the Senna Association.
Every time we come here, we remember Ayrton. I never thought I would have the chance to drive his car on this track. I had the opportunity during my time with McLaren, but the thought of driving it here, on his circuit, will be an incredible experience. I had his helmet recreated; it was supposed to be a surprise, but the news got out.”
Mercedes has experienced a rollercoaster of a season, and Hamilton spoke about it: “It’s been a turbulent year. We always come with a positive mindset; there are glimmers of hope, and then we go back. I hope the car can replicate the last race. I want to get the most out of the car. We would have liked to be in the championship fight. We knew it would be tough at the start of the year; at Silverstone, we worked hard for the win, and I’m grateful to the team, whom I know very well, and I believe this year’s results will fuel our efforts to improve next year.”
Alongside Lewis Hamilton was Franco Colapinto, and the seven-time world champion praised the Argentine driver’s skills: “I think he’s doing an incredible job. Kimi did a lot of testing before coming to Formula 1, while this guy jumped in the car and did a fantastic job. It’s great to see young talent shine; from the very first race, he earned his right to be here. There are people around him who will do everything possible to ensure he’s racing here next year.”
Finally, regarding the championship battle between Verstappen and Norris, he said: “It’s great for the spectacle. We know Max and his strengths. Lando is proving to be up to the task. I don’t watch their races too closely; everyone knows what’s happened in the last few races. They’re two of the best drivers, and I hope to see up close what unfolds.”
