A day to forget for Carlos Sainz, who crashed out in both the race and qualifying; the Spaniard takes responsibility.
Carlos Sainz left Brazil with zero points and two crashes to his name. The winner of the Mexican Grand Prix ended both qualifying and the race early, crashing his Ferrari in the first and second sectors, respectively.
The nightmare for Ferrari, as seen in Canada and Silverstone, was once again caused by low temperatures and adverse weather conditions. This was also the case in Brazil, and Carlos Sainz bore the brunt of it: before the race, he had to deal with a PU change that ultimately didn’t yield the hoped-for results.
After the race, the Spanish driver described his unfortunate Brazilian Sunday, which left him with zero points: “It was a day to forget for me. I’m sorry to have given the team extra work on a day that was already long and demanding. I’ve struggled with this car in wet conditions since the start of the year, and today I just didn’t have the right feelings. I tried to push and take some risks to recover positions, but clearly, we didn’t gain anything. It’s a tough day to swallow, but I can’t wait to turn the page and reset everything so I can focus on Las Vegas.”
Sainz added: “It’s true that I touched the line, but everyone else was using that trajectory and nothing ever happened. So yes, it’s a real shame it went that way. At the same time, I felt really uncomfortable with the car, which felt strange in the wet. It’s hard to understand why, but this year, driving this car in the rain has always been a bit of a nightmare. I’ve never been happy in wet conditions, and today was just another example. Usually, I’m fast in the rain, but this time it was impossible, and I had two crashes that I honestly can’t explain very well.” .”
