Charles Leclerc has given an update on the situation with three races to go, as Ferrari trails McLaren by 36 points.
The weekend in Interlagos didn’t go as well as hoped for Ferrari. Charles Leclerc finished in fifth place, while Carlos Sainz retired from the race. However, despite this, the Scuderia only lost 7 points to McLaren, and now the gap between the two teams stands at just 36 points.
Everything is still to play for with three races (plus one sprint) remaining in an incredible World Championship, and Ferrari can still dream. Charles Leclerc is the first to believe it, as he emphasized in his post-race comments after the Brazilian Grand Prix. These were his words: “Last year we were very strong there, and we hope to repeat that performance. It’s true that this season we’ve made a big step forward in tire management, which means we’ve lost something when the temperatures are low. That’s how it was in Brazil, and it seems like we’ll face a similar scenario in Las Vegas. But I’m more optimistic than pessimistic…” .”
The Monegasque driver also spoke about the upcoming races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi: “We hope to work over the next two weeks to prepare as best as possible and be at a good level. The characteristics of the tracks are better suited to our car, and again, we were very strong there last year. It might be a bit harder to get the tires into the right temperature window, but I still believe we can perform very well in Las Vegas. It will be important to score a good result, maybe even a double podium, to close the gap to McLaren and fight for the Constructors’ title, even though it will be tough.
I also think we’ll do well in Abu Dhabi, while in Qatar, unfortunately, I think we’ll have to focus on limiting the damage. In any case, there are three races left, and we hope to make the most of them.” .”
