Formula 1, Colapinto mania: Domenicali wants a Grand Prix in Argentina

The Colapinto mania has officially exploded, and now Stefano Domenicali dreams of bringing Formula 1 back to Argentina.

In Argentina, the fever for Franco Colapinto has officially taken over. The Williams driver, who replaced Sargeant starting from the Monza Grand Prix, is bringing an entire country closer to Formula 1. Now, Stefano Domenicali dreams of bringing the pinnacle of motorsport back to Argentina.

Formula 1, Colapinto mania: Domenicali wants a Grand Prix in Argentina

The strong presence of Argentine fans at the Austin, Mexico City, and São Paulo Grand Prix has not gone unnoticed. A whole nation is rallying behind Franco Colapinto, who, for his part, is still uncertain about racing in Formula 1 next season. The situation is complicated, with Red Bull eyeing the Argentine talent and reportedly wanting to pair him with Max Verstappen starting in 2025.

For now, these are just rumors, but they are becoming more persistent with each passing day. Argentina hopes, and in a sense, so does Stefano Domenicali. The former Ferrari team principal has already started making the first strategic moves to bring the Juan y Oscar Galvez Autodrome back to the F1 calendar. During the São Paulo Grand Prix weekend, a meeting took place between Domenicali, Daniel Scioli (the Argentine Minister of Sports), and César Carman (President of the Automóvil Club Argentino).

César Carman spoke on the topic, stating: “Stefano has been very kind to us, he would really like to host another Grand Prix, but it will take a lot of work from our side, and we have to start working on it. We have many things to do, like improving the track and bringing it up to Grade 1. We are very optimistic. I don’t want to give any dates because I don’t know them, but I think 2027-28 is more realistic.

Daniel [Scioli] has already told me that the private sector financing is in place. The current government says it doesn’t need to do what the private sector can do better. I think a lot of things are happening because of Franco. He has a disruptive effect on us, on Argentina, and Argentine fans are very excited to see Franco racing in Argentina again. So everything is coming together. Things are aligning. It’s like a dream.”
