Jarama Test Day 2: Günther leads the pack in the afternoon session.

In the afternoon session, the German driver debuting with DS Penske set the fastest time. Maserati performed well in the morning.

Maximilian Günther was the fastest on the second day of Formula E testing at the Jarama circuit. The new DS Penske driver, after finishing third yesterday, showed impressive speed, ending the session with a time of 1:28.408. Just behind him, only 33 thousandths of a second slower, was the surprise of the day, Dan Ticktum, driving for the debuting Kiro Race Co.

Jean-Eric Vergne took third place with the other DS Penske, finishing the session a tenth and a half behind his teammate, while rookie David Beckmann placed fourth in the other Kiro Race Co car. Both Ticktum and the German driver, however, have not yet been confirmed by the American team for Season 11, giving them a major opportunity to showcase their speed in the hopes of securing the last two available seats on the 2025 grid.

Just behind them are the two Mahindra cars, with Nyck De Vries in fifth and Edo Mortara in sixth. Nick Cassidy took seventh place in his first day of testing after Nissan and Jaguar faced budget cap penalties that kept them off the track yesterday. Rounding out the top ten are rookie Zane Maloney, Jake Dennis, and Mitch Evans, while reigning champion Pascal Wehrlein finished only in thirteenth position.

In the morning, the fastest lap was set by Jake Hughes, Maserati’s new driver, with a time of 1:28.604, achieved less than an hour and a half before the checkered flag. In the afternoon, however, the two Tipo Folgore cars finished in 21st and 22nd positions, focusing exclusively on race simulation.

Jaguar debuted a one-off livery for these winter tests at the Jarama circuit.

The morning session was marked by two red flags, one of which was caused by Sam Bird‘s NEOM McLaren after he ran wide in turn 1 and got stuck in the gravel. Nonetheless, the British driver was able to resume the testing day and finished the morning in sixth place.

After Porsche’s powertrain dominance yesterday, today it’s Stellantis’ powertrain that takes center stage, both in the morning with Maserati and in the afternoon with DS Penske. The on-track performance is starting to take shape, although it’s still early to make definitive judgments. See you tomorrow for the third day of testing!
