Hamilton: “Ferrari is everyone’s dream, I didn’t want to have any regrets.”

Lewis Hamilton discussed his decision to join Ferrari in a book about the Mercedes world.

The marriage between Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari, announced nearly a year ago, shocked and disrupted the world of Formula 1, and beyond. The seven-time world champion, after spending twelve seasons with Mercedes, will be heading to Maranello in an attempt to win a drivers’ title that has been missing for Ferrari for 17 years.

Hamilton: “Ferrari is everyone’s dream, I didn’t want to have any regrets.”

A challenging yet highly stimulating endeavor for the English driver, who, in an insightful documentary about the Mercedes world produced by writer Matt Whyman, shared the reasons behind his decision. Hamilton said: “I didn’t want to reach the end of my career, look back, and wonder what could have been if I had driven for Ferrari.” Lewis Hamilton’s current season with Mercedes has had its ups and downs, but the British driver has managed to secure two very important and meaningful victories, at Silverstone and Spa.

The English writer then analyzed Sir Lewis‘ words, recounting the moment when the seven-time world champion announced his departure from the team and his move to Ferrari: “He says he knows when his career will end. He has a very clear plan ahead of him. The announcement to the team? There was a strange atmosphere for about 30 seconds, but once he got in the car, everything was back to normal. People came to terms with it, and I think they understood his reasons, which are very simple. Talking with his colleagues, I believe everyone understands. It’s Ferrari, and it’s the one thing Lewis is missing .”
