It’s a chess game for the Anglo-Austrian team, which, according to many international media outlets, could promote Colapinto to the main team and pair him with Max Verstappen. But that’s not all, as, according to the well-known Italian newspaper, Alpine has also set its sights on the current Williams driver, with Flavio Briatore reportedly pushing to secure a deal with Williams based on the 20 million euros (or slightly less) the British team is asking to release him.

According to German media reports, Briatore played a key role in selecting the son of the former MotoGP champion, and his contract contains a specific clause: if his performances do not meet expectations, the French team would have the opportunity to replace Doohan, thanks to a “per-GP” contract signed at the time of the deal.

It’s a 90s-style management approach from Alpine, which, since Flavio Briatore’s arrival, has been changing every aspect of the team, from personnel cuts to the choice of Mercedes engines from 2026 onward. However, the central figure remains the same: Franco Colapinto.
