McLaren, Norris admits: “I wasn’t aggressive enough”

Lando Norris gave an interesting interview to Motorsport Week, discussing his racing style.

The race in Interlagos, won by Max Verstappen, effectively ended Lando Norris‘ hopes of glory. The British McLaren driver, who started from pole position, was unable to capitalize on the advantage gained in qualifying and finished the Brazilian race in sixth place.

McLaren, Norris admits: “I wasn’t aggressive enough”

Only mathematics, now, still keeps Lando Norris in the hunt, but Max Verstappen’s fourth world title no longer seems to be in doubt. The British McLaren driver, in this regard, spoke to Motorsport Week, reflecting on the current season and, more generally, on his racing style and approach to battles with direct rivals on track..

Here are Norris’ words: “I think one thing I’ve done well throughout my career is always staying out of trouble and keeping the car in one piece. All these little things add up over a championship and a season, especially in a season with the budget cap. But I think I’ve always had the mentality of wanting to race fairly and cleanly, and sometimes I’ve been too kind, whether I’m attacking or defending, and things like that.

And I believe I’ve always made good decisions in that sense, but sometimes I’ve paid the price for not being aggressive enough. But the rest is out of my hands. I know how to keep the car in one piece. It’s something I’ve been doing for a while.”

The McLaren driver then added: “Even when you don’t realize it, there are moments when you need to avoid a potential incident, and maybe you don’t see it on TV, but inside the car, you think you’ve made it to the end because you avoided this or did that.”
