Marc Marquez’s words at the end of the Barcelona Grand Prix, where he finished in second place behind Bagnaia.

Marc Marquez wrapped up his adventure with the Gresini Team in the best possible way. A second-place finish in the race and a third-place finish in the MotoGP World Championship for the Spanish rider, who, starting next season, will be teammate to Bagnaia in the official Ducati team.

Marquez, interviewed after the race, talked about several topics, starting with his adventure with the Ducati customer team: “I would have signed up to finish third, especially considering how I arrived at Ducati. After four years of despair and injuries, during which I thought about everything. I want to thank Honda for understanding my situation and Gresini Racing for giving me this opportunity. I found a great environment, which remains united even after a bad seventh place like yesterday’s. That’s its strength, and it has given me a lot, so I must thank them.”

Regarding today’s race, Marquez had little hope of attacking Bagnaia, although the thought crossed his mind, as highlighted by the number 93 himself: “I tried to stay as focused as possible during the race. It doesn’t mean I wasn’t focused yesterday, but over the weekend we had lost a bit of our way, so we went back to the bike we started with here. The truth is, I felt very comfortable today. In the last five laps, though, I looked at the tower and saw that Bastianini wasn’t behind me, so I decided not to take risks. But even if I had taken risks, I think I wouldn’t have been able to beat Pecco today.”

In two days, Marquez will begin his new adventure with the official Ducati team, and he talked about it like this: “It will be the first contact with the bike, with the team, and with the new head technician. It’s going to be really exciting because I’ll be moving to the official team. From day one, I’ll try to work well to compete with the reference in the box, which will be Bagnaia, because he won 11 races this year and will be very strong again next year. But first of all, I need to adapt to the changes myself.”

As for the World Championship battle, Marquez offered renewed congratulations to Bagnaia and World Champion Martin: “Pecco didn’t win the World Championship this year because there was a great Spanish rider, Jorge Martin, who had a fantastic season. He had speed and was more consistent. Pecco had a lot of speed on Sundays, won many races, but Martin is deservedly the champion. Let him enjoy it, these are very special moments in any rider’s career. The first title is always very special, so congratulations to his fans and especially to him and his team.”
