Ferrari, Sainz: “The Constructors’ title is ambitious and optimistic. A return to Maranello? Never say never.”

Carlos Sainz gave an interview to Sky Sports UK, and the Spaniard has not ruled out a possible return to Ferrari.

It’s the week of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the twenty-second and third-to-last race of the 2024 season. It’s been a tight battle for the Constructors’ Championship, with McLaren and Ferrari fighting it out like in the old days. The Scuderia has collected 116 points in the United States-Mexico-Brazil triple-header, with a 36-point gap to the British team.

The US race, staying with the casino theme, represents a great opportunity for Ferrari, which, given the characteristics of the track, should have the speed and pace to fight for the win. Last season, Leclerc took pole position and finished second, while Sainz, after an unfortunate encounter with a manhole cover, wasn’t very lucky.

The Spaniard, who will officially say goodbye to the Prancing Horse at the end of the season, spoke to Sky Sports UK about the current campaign. Here’s what he had to say: “I’m a driver who loves being involved in things related to the car’s development, living in Maranello to help improve it. When I joined Ferrari in 2021, the goal was to win a championship, and we might achieve that this year, in the Constructors’ The title is ambitious and optimistic.”

Sainz then added: “It would hurt more if, next year, we were fighting for the Drivers’ title. It’s clear that I feel I’ve had some influence in building this team to become one capable of fighting for the championship. But next year, we’ll turn the page, and I’m looking forward to being at Williams. That’s how things went.”

From December 10th, during the Abu Dhabi tests, Sainz will drive for Williams for the first time, but the Ferrari red will stay with him forever, as he emphasized in his words: “I firmly believe that nothing should ever be ruled out, and in everything I do, I’ve always tried to leave on good terms. I try to put myself in a good position, and I’m someone who gets along well with people— I’m relaxed in that sense. I’ll leave the door open for a return. Ferrari isn’t an option for the next few years because I’m committed to Williams, but who knows, in four, six, eight, ten years.”
