According to Dutch journalist Jack Plooij, the election of the U.S. president could favor the entry of the Andretti team into F1.
Donald Trump’s election as president of the United States for a second term could have significant repercussions in the world of F1. Liberty Media, the American giant that owns the Formula One Group, is currently facing a difficult period when it comes to “personnel.”
Recently, in fact, the departure of Greg Maffei has opened up new scenarios (in the medium and long term) within the top category of motorsport, which is now trying to stabilize. Speculation about a possible “move” of Stefano Domenicali from F1 to MotoGP has been denied, but in this limbo of uncertainty and rumors, the Andretti team could potentially benefit.
According to Dutch journalist Jack Plooij, a well-known figure in the F1 paddock, the friendship between Donald Trump and Michael Andretti could help the American team’s entry into F1. In January 2024, Formula One Management (FOM) rejected the potential entry of the Andretti team, despite the approval from the FIA. However, things might change positively following Trump’s second election.
According to Plooij, the pressures that Trump might exert regarding Andretti’s potential entry could prove decisive, especially since Liberty Media and F1 in general are expanding their presence in the United States, with a notable return in terms of both audience and revenue.
It’s worth noting that the Andretti team is continuing to work diligently on the car that could eventually debut in 2026, and it’s not ruled out, as we mentioned a few weeks ago, that the necessary funding might be secured by Christmas. Therefore, the arrival of an eleventh team in F1 doesn’t seem so unrealistic after all.
