Lewis Hamilton spoke to the press ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, his third-to-last race with Mercedes.
Hamilton is seeking redemption after the disastrous race in Brazil. It was one of the toughest weekends of his career as the seven-time world champion, who is now close to joining Ferrari. There are still three races to go with Mercedes, and the Briton wants to conclude his time with the team in the most dignified way possible.
During the team radio at the Brazilian GP, Hamilton expressed his frustration, hinting at doubts about his participation in the final races: “It was a disastrous weekend, guys. The worst car I’ve ever driven. Thanks to everyone on the pit stop for doing a great job. If this is the last time I perform, it’s a shame, it wasn’t great, but I’m grateful to you all.”
In Las Vegas, during the media day, Sir Lewis clarified his comments, explaining the frustration and disappointment he felt after a weekend where everything seemed to go wrong. Hamilton said: “At that moment, that’s how I felt, like I didn’t really want to come back after that weekend. It’s natural. It’s frustrating when you have a season like this, which I’m pretty sure I won’t have again—or at least I’ll work hard so I don’t have one like this again. It wasn’t a good feeling at that moment, but I’m here, I’m strong, and I’ll give absolutely everything for these last races.”
Hamilton then added: “I’ve been in this world for a long time. A lot has been said about me, there have been attacks against me—not from my boss, because he has supported me, but generally in the media. Nothing can stop me after all that. I’m still here, still fighting, and I’ll keep pushing “.
