Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson spoke to the press after the first two free practice sessions of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
It was a somewhat inconclusive Thursday, but in some respects, a positive one for Racing Bulls. After not shining in the first session, they managed to place Yuki Tsunoda in the top 10. The Japanese driver seemed particularly satisfied, as reflected in his comments after the practice sessions.
Here is Yuki Tsunoda’s comment “Overall, the first day here in Las Vegas was positive. We struggled a bit in FP1, but then we managed to turn things around in FP2. It’s a good sign because it’s usually not easy, and I think we’ve found the direction to follow for the rest of the weekend.
We need further fine-tuning on Friday to find a couple of tenths and aim for Q3. The long runs also seemed positive, although I think it will depend a lot on how we manage the tires, given the difficult and unusual conditions here. It will be important to find the right balance in terms of car setup between short and long runs.”
A more challenging start for Liam Lawson, who finished at the bottom of the first session and in fifteenth place in the second. Here’s the New Zealand driver’s comment: “Today was a challenging day, honestly. It started very slowly, but then we made some progress and learned a lot. It’s very cold, and the track was quite slippery and dirty at first, we were just waiting for it to improve. In FP2, the track was colder but also faster, and we learned things that will help us on Friday. We now have the knowledge from today to improve: we hope to get into the top 10, but it also depends on what the others do.”
