Mercedes, Russell’s dream weekend: “Winning here is incredible, we didn’t expect to be this strong.”

Pole position and a dominant victory, his second of the season, for George Russell as he takes the win at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

There could not have been a better weekend for Mercedes and George Russell. Pole position and victory for the British driver who, after a chaotic win in Austria, dominated in Las Vegas, joining the group of seven drivers with two or more wins in this incredible season.

Mercedes, Russell’s dream weekend: “Winning here is incredible, we didn’t expect to be this strong.”

A victory that was never in doubt for the former Williams driver, who was able to capitalize on and extend his lead during the first stint on medium tires. Russell’s relentless pace allowed him to gain at least 12 seconds over his competitors. In the final stages, it was a matter of managing his lead against Lewis Hamilton’s comeback for a one-two finish that had been missing this season.

After the race, Russell expressed his happiness with the following statements: “It’s been a dream weekend, I don’t know how we managed to be this fast: I’m on top of the world. This place is amazing, it’s something indescribable: we couldn’t have picked a better spot. I expected something to happen, because in the previous two races where I had gotten pole, chaos had ensued.”

The Mercedes driver then added: “Here I felt confident, I had a good lead. But I expected something to happen, and it didn’t, and luck decided to turn in my favor, and I’m happy about that. We’ll have a great party tonight. I wanted to fly in a couple of hours, but I definitely won’t be on that flight and will enjoy this evening with my whole team.”
