A champion’s race for Lewis Hamilton, who started in tenth place after yesterday’s mistakes, but finished in second position.
It was a true display of British grit, a legendary performance from Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion, after starting in tenth due to two errors in qualifying, put on an incredible performance, climbing up to finish in second place.
After the criticism he received yesterday for failing to qualify in a position that could have put him on pole or at least in the front row, Lewis Hamilton showed all of his talent, delivering a perfect race in every aspect: tire management, overtakes, and the sharpness of a champion that helped him finish in second place, with a strong recovery over Russell in the final laps.
The seven-time world champion, interviewed immediately after the race, spoke about his performance: “First of all, I want to congratulate Max for winning the championship. If I had done my job yesterday, the situation today would have been different, but I still had a lot of fun. I started from behind, from tenth place, and the team did a fantastic job. We don’t know why we were so fast this weekend, but the car has never been better than this. I’m happy to have brought the car to this level.”
The cold weather positively affected a weekend completely dominated by the Silver Arrows. These are Sir Lewis’ words: “The cold is the reason we performed so well, while in the heat we struggle more. Did I get tired during the race? Actually, when the car is working so well, you feel great. And maybe for the upcoming races, if we can keep having fun, we can fight even if the championship is decided. We need to aim for the best position possible.”
