Paolo Simoncelli, father of the late Marco Simoncelli, shared his thoughts on Marc Marquez: “He races on track the way Marco used to race. I’m a fan of his.”
Motorcycling hasn’t been the same for Paolo Simoncelli since October 23, 2011. That terrible day remains etched in the memories of many fans: the tragic accident at Sepang that took the life of his son Marco, a beloved figure not just in Italy but worldwide.
Paolo, however, didn’t leave the racing world behind. He built his own Moto3 team, Sic58 Squadra Corse, with the aim of nurturing young talent, including rising star Luca Lunetta. In an interview with Motosan, Paolo shared his thoughts on the current season: “I prefer Moto3 over Moto2. About this season? I should be satisfied… but I’m not 100%.”

Then, talking about MotoGP, Paolo said: “I think that when a rider (referring to Bagnaia, editor’s note) wins 11 races but doesn’t take the championship… something is off. Maybe he had too many zeroes. But Pecco is a beast. You can see it in how he rides—calm and fast. It’s incredible.”
“Marquez? Someone like him is better to have on your team than as a rival. I’m a fan of his because he races the way Marco used to and has the same spirit. I would have made the same decision as Ducati” , said the Italian.
He concluded: “MotoGP is an incredible spectacle. It’s beautiful, the most extreme form of motorcycling. Maybe if you look at the bikes from a few years ago, they’re obviously different, but in the end, the riders always give their best.”
