The Cadillac team, which will join Formula 1 in 2026, is already taking steps on the PU front, as confirmed by Mario Andretti.
A few days ago, the official announcement came regarding Cadillac’s entry into Formula 1 starting from the 2026 season. The prestigious American brand, supported by the General Motors-Andretti partnership, has ramped up its efforts and is moving forward on all fronts.
From logistics to the design of the 2026 car, as well as the expansion of the racing sector with new jobs, the financial outlay will be significant, as the Cadillac team will have to pay $450 million to Formula 1, which will then be distributed among the ten existing teams. It’s a substantial effort, but manageable for a team that aims to be a contender right from the start.
In this regard, Mario Andretti, who was appointed as a member of the team’s internal board just a few days ago, spoke to the BBC. The former Ferrari driver discussed the potential collaboration between the American team and the Maranello-based Scuderia for the supply of the power unit until General Motors’ own fully developed unit is ready.
Andretti responded as follows: “We are working on this possibility. There’s nothing official yet, but it is our goal. This is our preference, and it’s what we are focusing on. My history with Ferrari and the relationship I had with Enzo Ferrari play an important role. There are many factors that make this collaboration make sense, and that’s why we are aiming to find the best possible solution that makes everyone happy.” .
The conditions to reach an agreement in a relatively short time are all in place, given that 2026 is not as far off as it may seem. An eventual partnership between two such significant brands could be a real boost for both Ferrari and Cadillac, further enhancing the prestige of the Scuderia di Maranello.
