Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri spoke to the press ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix, the first match point for McLaren.
The Qatar Grand Prix, the 23rd and penultimate race of the 2024 season, could represent McLaren‘s first match point in the Constructors’ Championship battle. The Woking-based team has just a 24-point lead over Ferrari, but the layout of the Qatari circuit could significantly favor Norris and Piastri.
The two drivers, who were approached by the press, shared their thoughts ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix. Here are Norris‘ statements: “I can’t wait to return to Qatar. Last year, it was a very positive race for us, and this year we aim to do even better. It’s also the last Sprint race of 2024, so we’ll try to gather as many points as possible. We’re fully focused on what we need to achieve in the final two rounds. The track and conditions in Qatar should suit us better than last weekend, so I’m excited to see what we can do. There are only two races left, we have to make it happen!”
Piastri is also on the same page, as he won his first sprint race here last season, beating Max Verstappen. The Australian driver said: “The next stop is Qatar, and I can’t wait to go back. It will be another Sprint weekend, and last year I won the Saturday sprint race here, so I’m really curious to see what we can do this time. With only two weekends left, we know exactly what we need to do. This circuit should suit us more than Las Vegas, so we’re focused and ready to give it our all in the battle for the Constructors’ Championship.”
