Mercedes, a race to forget for Hamilton: “I made a mistake at the start, the car had too much understeer.”

A race to forget for Lewis Hamilton, who finished last in the Qatar Grand Prix with two penalties.

A nightmare Qatar for Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion, in his penultimate race with Mercedes, ended up in last place after suffering a puncture and making two mistakes that resulted in penalties. A false start and speeding in the pit lane led to a 5-second penalty and a drive-through for the British driver, who was inevitably relegated to the last position.

Mercedes, a race to forget for Hamilton: “I made a mistake at the start, the car had too much understeer.”

A tough weekend for Lewis Hamilton, who, after qualifying, seemed quite discouraged and resigned when seeing the gap to his teammate. The race, then, offered no highlights for the future Ferrari driver, who commented on it as follows: “It was a really tough day for me, but these things happen. My early start was a completely my mistake, which cost me a penalty during the pit stop.”

Like Sainz, Hamilton also suffered a puncture (due to debris left by Albon’s mirror), which forced him to complete the entire track with three tires and a damaged floor. This was his comment: “The puncture was simply an unfortunate circumstance, and then I exceeded the speed limit in the pits, another mistake from my side. The car had a lot of understeer today.”

Finally, he reflected on his adventure with Mercedes, which will come to an end in Abu Dhabi after eleven years: “These last races don’t erase all the amazing things we have achieved together as a team.Racing is like a roller coaster of emotions; I’ve had incredible races and others that were less impressive.”
