After a five-year absence and its return in 2024, the renewal of the Chinese Grand Prix for another five years has been officially confirmed.

On the occasion of the final Grand Prix of the season in Abu Dhabi, as well as the last weekend for Zhou Guanyu in Formula 1 (at least for the time being), the Formula 1 Organization (FOM) announced the renewal of the Chinese Grand Prix until 2030. The Shanghai event returned to the championship calendar this season, after its first and only edition in 2019. The absence of the Chinese Grand Prix was primarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but now, the weekend in China will once again excite fans in the country (and beyond) for another five years.

This renewal marks the continued growth of the sport in China, both in terms of popularity and audience, with over 150 million fans. Additionally, the Chinese Grand Prix will be the second event of the 2025 calendar, scheduled from March 21 to 23, and will host the first F1 Sprint event of the season, as well as the inaugural F1 Academy race.

The renewal of the Chinese Grand Prix arrives: Zhou Guanyu raced at home for the first time in 2024.

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, stated: “Our return to China this season, for the first time since 2019, was a fantastic moment for the sport, and it’s incredible to see how the level of support we receive in the country continues to grow year after year. Shanghai is an incredible city, and the circuit is a wonderful challenge for our drivers, so I’m happy that Formula 1 will continue its successful partnership with the Chinese Grand Prix for another five years. I want to thank our promoter for their ongoing commitment and passion, and I look forward to returning to Shanghai in the new year .”

Guo Jianfei, President of Shanghai Jiushi (Group) Co., Ltd., the promoter of the Chinese Grand Prix, said: “This is fantastic news for fans in China and provides the perfect platform to showcase Shanghai to the world while millions of people follow the event globally on TV.”

Looking ahead, we will continue to work closely with all our partners, further strengthening our engagement with the international audience through the event platform, constantly improving the event quality, and better showcasing the charm of Shanghai. We fully understand that a successful Grand Prix is not only an exciting event but also a driving force for the entire society, progressing in a more positive direction. In the future, we will continue to optimize the event experience through innovation and contribute sustainably to society, ” continued the promoter of the Shanghai event.
